If you like to snuggle into warm and soft sheeting, our sateen sheets may be the perfect choice. But what makes them so luxurious? It has to do with the perfect weave, made from some of the best fibers, and woven with care by craftsmen who know luxury fabrics.

What is Sateen?

Some may think of sateen as a type of fabric, but it’s actually a type of weave. Unlike simple weaves which are one over/one under, sateen is typically woven four over/one under. This longer pattern is characterized by its silky smooth surface and heavier, tighter weave. It gives sateen a luminous sheen, and makes our sateen sheets ideal for cooler temperatures.

While sateen weave can be made from almost any type of fiber, we’ve chosen 100% pure extra long-staple cotton because of its inimitable softness and natural breathability. Additionally, cotton is easy to maintain, and can last for years if properly cared for.

What Is the Difference Between Sateen Sheets and Percale?

Percale is considered a simple weave, while sateen is a satin weave. Compared to percale, sateen is softer, smoother, and shinier, and tends to sleep warmer because of its denser weave. Additionally, sateen tends to wrinkle less than percale, so it’s a good choice if you hate to iron. To imagine the feel of each fabric, picture percale as a crisp, white dress shirt, while sateen is more like a silky and luxurious dress. So which is better? That depends entirely on your preferences. Some prefer to keep a few sets of each and change from one to the other as the seasons change.
